No Foolin' - These Are Some Real Unusual Fuels
In the movie "Back to the Future," scientist Emmett "Doc" Brown invents a
time-traveling car. By the end of the film, the car is using a "Mr.
Fusion" power generator that runs on ordinary household waste. As it
turns out, Hollywood's idea for future fuels wasn't too far off. In real
life, researchers are working on all kinds of weird fuel sources for
cars in an effort to curb the numerous side effects of our dependence on
petroleum-based fossil fuels.
It might sound crazy, but companies and researchers are actually working
on making fuel for cars, trucks, and even airplanes from some of these
sources:
- Sawdust, wood chips and nuts
- Used diapers
- Bad batches of chocolate
- Cow waste
- Coffee grounds
- Used polystyrene cups
- Turkey guts
